Red Hot Sauce
Red hot sauce is a spicy blend of cayenne peppers, vinegar,
garlic and spices. This sauce appeared on the market in 1920 and made
its way to becoming the secret recipe for the infamous Buffalo chicken
wings (named after Buffalo, New York). Since then this chili pepper
sauce has found its way around the globe.
First used as an added kick to burritos and chicken, red hot sauce
has found its way into many cuisines. From Mexican and Cajun-style cooking
and BBQ to American style casseroles, soups and sandwiches, this sauce
is considered a staple for most cooks. The sauce is also recently been
added to specialty drinks and desserts as well as gourmet dishes. Like
most gourmet and novelty brands of hot sauce, red hot sauce is usually
available with a variety of intended uses such as BBQ, wings or for
all over flavor. However, the original red hot sauce remains a favorite.
When it comes to taste, red hot sauce tends to be at a medium level
of hot and spicy. Individuals can reduce the heat in their sauce by
adding butter until as mild as desired. However, those looking to increase
the heat, might want to step it up and locate an extra-hot specialty
sauce instead.
